On February 19th in Oregon Capitol in Salem, Oregon there was a concentration called ‘Immigrants March’ where supporters of the caused gathered around with signs and listened to guest speakers, enjoyed live music and chanted in support of the cause. People from all over Oregon came together to show their support for immigrants much like mother and daughter, Karen Kreamer and Jessie Brainerd who are from Corvallis and Portland respectively.

“It’s just sad, it’s just very sad. We’re not this… We’re not like this, we’re not like this. It just makes me hurt inside”- Karen Kreamer. Jessie Brainerd a resident of Portland, Oregon wore this sign around her neck during the ‘Immigrants March’ at the Oregon Capitol in Salem, Oregon to show her opposition to the xenophobic acts that have been occurring throughout the country.
After the impact of ‘A Day Without Immigrants,’ thousands across the nation came out on, February 19th to participate in the ‘Immigrants March.’ In Oregon, the march took place at the Oregon Capitol in Salem, where a couple hundred people came out to support immigrants. The day was filled with moving speakers, guest musicians and creative signs that created a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Mother-daughter duo Karen Kreamer and Jessie Brainerd spent their day at the ‘Immigrants March’ that took place on February 19th at the Oregon Capitol in Salem, Oregon. The duo maintained a tight huddle the entire time they were at the demonstration. “She’s my youngest daughter and we just have a special bond together.”
“We wanted to go to the women’s march together but we weren’t able to, so this is our first opportunity to demonstrate together… but not our last.” Jessie Brainerd, who resides in Portland, and her mother Karen Kreamer, who resides in Corvallis were thrilled to have the opportunity to come together to support the ‘Immigrants March’ in Salem, Oregon.
A speaker for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) asked the attendants at the ‘Immigrants March’ at the Oregon Capitol in Salem, Oregon to like their page on Facebook to show support for the policy. Jessie Brainerd and Karen Kreamer, a mother-daughter duo immediately separated from their huddle, for the first time in the day, and pulled out their phones to support DACA.
