Stereotyping is an issue that minorities have been facing since immigration first occurred in America. One of the earliest examples of stereotyping minorities was with Mexicans. After the Mexican-American war when the US took over the Mexican territory, there were so many stereotypes created about who the Mexicans were and how they behaved. Anti-Mexican propaganda could be found around the country. As the idea of nationalism began to spread minorities from all over were being attacked for not being American. Looking at the immigration climate today, we see that although it has come a long there is still a long way to go. Currently there are many stereotypes that influence people’s perception of minorities; the most common one are usually negative. These stereotypes range from attitudes that define certain races to assuming who these people are, and what they are capable of doing.
