About Me

Daniel Alonso

Daniel Alonso is a Senior at the University of Oregon from Sacramento, CA. He is an Advertising major with minors in both Business Administration and Economics. For his Summer Gateway course, Daniel chose to explore the issue of gun control in Lane County. Because gun control is such a split issue among Oregonians, Daniel hoped to capture many different perspectives and tell many different stories. Daniel became interested in this issue because of the hostility and division that surrounds the current political climate in the United States. He hoped to explore a split issue and see if he couldn’t find common ground among local citizens with clashing belief systems. After weeks of researching and interviewing subjects, Daniel learned that the issue is not as divided as the media portrays it. Oregonians who identify as either Democrats or Republicans have much more common ground than they may think – which is why discourse and the ability to freely share and express ideas is more important than ever.
