Meet our RARE participants: Alexa Carey & Cow Creek Tribe

Alexa grew up in rural Gold Beach, Oregon.  Most recently, she received degrees in Marketing, Management and International Business and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from the University Honors College at Oregon State University.  As a student, Alexa was extremely active, taking on roles as Vice President of the Oregon State University Chapter of the American Marketing Association and Vice Chair of the College of Business Dean’s Student Leadership Circle.  Following her year with the RARE Program, Alexa plans to go back school for a Master’s degree in either Public Policy with an emphasis on Rural Economics or Community and Economic Development.

The Umpqua Business Center (UBC) acts as an economic facilitator, providing business mentors: management support services, leading edge technology, business training, modern office facilities, and an introduction to the local investment community that will promote and foster creation and expansion of promising new entrepreneurial talent.   UBC exists to support and develop a solid business foundation to ensure the growth of the community and the quality of life in the greater Roseburg Area.

The RARE participant placed with UBC will support the Tribe in their endeavors to broaden Douglas County’s economic base through economic gardening and entrepreneurial development.  Specifically, the participant will assist with coordination of activities and events of the UBC by working collaboratively with service providers, tenants, incubatees, business service providers, economic development entities and the business community.
