College of Education Equity Forum!
Welcome to the College of Education Equity Forum!
Similar to the COE Equity Challenge many of you engaged in as a community this past Fall, this forum provides an organized way to continue the discourse we started in the realm of equity and inclusion while expanding our knowledge, refreshing our knowledge, piquing our curiosity, or challenging our understanding of a variety of relevant and timely topics.
The College of Education Equity Forum draws heavily from the COE Challenge which was based on work conducted by many others across the nation like United Way, Eddie Moore Junior, Debby Irving who have been engaging in challenges like these for several years. We hope that by continuing our exploration of these relevant social topics we can begin to strengthen those courageous conversation “muscles” that allow us the strength to withstand, and even lean into, the discomfort when challenging topics arise.
It is worth repeating that reading these articles, watching these videos, and listening to these podcasts won’t cure society’s biggest problems, but it is our hope that by committing jointly to journeys like we will develop the confidence to engage with each other in ways that permit us to see new pathways towards those cures. Practicing in difficult conversations (which some of these will be), could allow us to slowly step into the deeper levels of discourse that tend to precede transformative change.
Though none of the materials posted will feel sufficient to answer our most difficult questions about what makes us the same or different, it is our hope that something you encounter in this forum will provide a foundation for a deep and rewarding discussion that changes you, someone, or something in our community.
Be sure to indicate your interest here to receive reminders and calendar invitations to sessions of discourse I am interested.
Note: “The 21-Day Equity Challenge was created by Dr. Eddie Moore Jr. (#BlackMind) and co-developed with Debby Irving, and Dr. Marguerite Penick (#DiverseSolutions). The plan has been adopted by Organizations, Associations and Corporations all over the nation/world. Dr. Eddie Moore Jr. is the Director of the Privilege Institute in Green Bay, WI. Dr. Moore created the Challenge to not only help people better understand issues surrounding equity, inclusion, privilege, leadership and supremacy, but also to do so in a way that would build a habit of learning by stretching it over time. We are excited to be offering you this Challenge in partnership with Dr. Moore. As you engage in the various activities, feel free to tag, comment, and follow (1) 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge | Facebook”
