Filing complaints, concerns, and reports in the College of Education

While we sincerely hope that as a member of the College of Education Community, your experience is wholly positive, we realize that while navigating your student career on or off a university campus, you may encounter any number of complicated situations that would benefit from you reaching out to share your concern.

The University of Oregon has a variety of pathways for submitting concerns and those pathways vary depending on the nature of your concern. We have consolidated a number of them here, and urge you to skim through these resources now in the event that you need to make swift use of them while navigating a personal concern or a concern on behalf of someone else in need.

  • Safety and Emergencies: If you are in immediate danger call 9-1-1 from the nearest phone.
  • 24 Hour Hotline for information and support: 541-346-SAFE. Call anytime to speak with a counselor who can also connect you with other confidential resources.
  • Mental Health, Self-Care: If you have concerns about your mental health or that of another individual, the university Counseling Services Center offers a variety of services for extended needs https://counseling.uoregon.edu/.
  • General Student Concerns: https://dos.uoregon.edu/concern The Dean of Students site offers links and advice related to a variety of concerns that may impact student life and experiences related to life on campus or off. This site includes links to report: suicide concerns, sexual misconduct, interpersonal violence, bias, and other concerns. This site also has a student care team, dedicated to assisting you as you navigate situations.
  • Victims and Survivors, Confidential: For reports related to all forms of sexual harassment, the link here will take you to a confidential team of reporters https://safe.uoregon.edu/about
  • Harassment Concerns and other civil rights complaints: The Office of Investigations and Civil Rights Compliance https://investigations.uoregon.edu/ addresses and investigates concerns and complaints that a campus community member has violated the University’s Prohibited Discrimination and Retaliation Policy. If you or someone you know (student, faculty, or staff) has experienced discrimination based on sex, gender, or sexual orientation, or sexual harassment, sexual or dating violence or stalking, or discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, age, disability, or other protected class or protected activity, you are encouraged to file a report with the OICRC, https://investigations.uoregon.edu/how-report. Filing a report does not obligate you to participate in a University process, but OICRC will reach out to you regarding support resources. A list of University resources, both confidential and non-confidential, for faculty and students is available on the OICRC website, https://investigations.uoregon.edu/how-get-support. Questions may be directed to icrcinfo@uoregon.edu.
  • Appealing a grade:  Students who feel they have been graded unfairly in a course should review the issue first with the faculty member. Following this review, if the student is not satisfied they should discuss the problem with the chairperson of the department in which the course was taken. If the student does not feel satisfied with the result of meeting with the instructor or the department chairperson, he/she may make an appointment with an advisor in the Office of Academic Advising by visiting 101 Oregon Hall or by calling 541-346-3211. The advisor can explain options to the student, including petitioning the Scholastic Review Committee. If you have not met with your instructor or the department chairperson, your advisor will send you to meet with them first before discussing a petition.

The College of Education encourages you to submit concerns to whichever campus office makes the most sense for your need/concern. If you would like to consult with someone inside of the College of Education before submitting your concern through any of these mechanisms, you may contact any of the following individuals at your own discretion to discuss the nature of your concern and the ideal approach to proceeding.
