Grand Forks women partner on ‘Burgers to Beat MS’ fundraiser

Bite by bite, burger by burger, Grand Forks’ A&W last week raised nearly $700 for people living with multiple sclerosis (MS).

It was perhaps a humble contribution to the fast-food chain’s 13th annual “Burgers to Beat MS” campaign when, every Aug. 19, the company donates $2 to MS research from every Teen Burger sold nationwide, according to the MS Society of Canada’s (MSSC) website. It was a massive success, no matter how you look at it, for local organizers Amanda Blades and Patti Bevilacqua.

Patti Bevilacqua is an alumna of the COE.

An upcoming study, led in part by a College of Education doctoral graduate, will look at how education students respond to stress from taking racial bias tests, as part of an effort to help better prepare new teachers.

Tracking physiological and biological stress responses can help researchers design better ways for teaching new educators about race and racism, as well as help educators better understand their own implicit biases.

States with the Most & Least Equitable School Districts

While the U.S. is one of the most educated countries in the world, it doesn’t provide the same quality elementary school or secondary school education to all students. In many states, more affluent school districts receive a greater amount of funding per student than poorer districts.

In order to provide further insight on how to promote equitability in education, WalletHub turned to a panel of experts.
