I am studying the role of sediment in ground motion of the Willamette Valley in Oregon. The Willamette Valley is filled with sediment, which is prone to more intense ground shaking during an earthquake than solid bedrock. We would like to know more about how ground motion will propagate across the valley during a Cascadia Subduction Zone megathrust event. In order to resolve this, I intend to quantify the range of strong motions expected for a M9.0 earthquake by utilizing data from broadband seismic instruments, operated by the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN), to model expected ground motions across the Willamette Valley.
