I have to say making the choice is difficult because all of the 20 values are important for my life. The first five values that I chose are family, health, enjoyment, wisdom and friendship. Today, there are four activities that I did in my daily life, learning at school, making a phone call to parents who stay at China weekly, going to do an outside activity with friends per week, running at gym triple a week. Learning at school reflect the value of wisdom because I can get knowledge through studying at college. Making a phone call to parents weekly reflects the value of family. My parents stay at China and they miss me very much and so do I so I make a phone call to them weekly. Going to do an outside activity with friends per week reflects the value of enjoyment and friendship. Outside activity is interesting so make me feel enjoyable and playing it with friend can enhance our friendship. Running at gym triple a week reflects the value of health. Running can keep my fit and make me healthier.
I believe the family is the most important value for personal life and I inherit this belief pattern from my family. Family is my backup force, no matter I failed or succeed in outside, my family will support me unconditionally. My father would go back home every day no matter how busy he is because he believe family is more important than others. This belief still have authority in my thinking and it will not be changed forever. I want to travel around the world but I have yet to pursue because the priority is getting the degree and make a stable life.
Reflection:
This artifact is really help me to explore my values system and to recognize what is the important thing for my life. Before, I did not have a chance to sit down and think about all kinds of values in my life and I do not know what I really want. Through did this artifact, I really understand the most important thing for me is my family. I believe that family member would give me the strongest love and no one else can treat me like my parents. No matter I am successful or failed, happy or sad; there is nothing without family because I want to share my emotion in a warm home. The above picture is my dream life, live with parents or with my children in the country without any pressure.
In addition, I still understand the importance of personal value in my life. Everyone cannot live without personal values and you must make sure what your personal value is before you achieve your goal. As Lewis mentioned, “Personal values matter a great deal. Without them, we cannot live at all, for they are just as essential as air, food and water, and protection from the elements. Without clearly focused values, it is probably impossible to lead a purposeful and satisfying life” (Lewis, 18).
Future Intentions:
In the future, I need to identify my personal value clearer. In addition, I will follow the values that I chosen in the Life Values Assessment to live. I also will pay attention to see if I change my recognition of life values in the future.
