What’s with the picture of the tunnel on the blog?

What’s with the picture of the tunnel on the blog?

The honest answer is it came with the blog design and we don’t know how to change it. The more fun answer is that we’ve spent an unreasonable amount of time discussing how to use the photo as a metaphor for grad school. Some takeaways from the discussion on how grad school is like a long tunnel:

  • It’s long, so don’t hold your breath through it. Grad school is a marathon, not a sprint.
  • There are twists and turns.
  • It can sometimes be dark and scary.
  • Some areas of the tunnel are more well-lit than others.
  • It can’t always be seen, but there is light at the end.

Nominate an O/I/M Seminar Speaker!

It’s that time of the year again! Each year, CBGReAT works with the O/I/M faculty to invite a student-elected speaker to give a seminar. If you have a professor or a scientist that you are interested in bringing out to the UO to learn more about their work, please email CBGReAT with the prospective speaker’s name, institution, and a paragraph summarizing their recent work and why they are interesting. We will then compile the nominations, and send out a poll for a popular vote.

Please send in your nominations by October 14.
