Winter 2024 updates!

Howdy folks!

We hope you’re staying warm during this winter! CBGReAT has some exciting updates!

  • We’re happy to welcome our newest members: Audrey Davenport (she/her, OIM), Sofia Carlson (she/her, IMB), and Laila Nawab (she/her, At Large).
  • We’re moving our weekly meetings to Wednesdays at 1 PM, in ONY 384. We’ve switched to an open meeting format, so feel free to bring your lunch and feedback for us! We’re here to listen!
  • We’ll be meeting soon with the Graduate Education Committee (GEC) to discuss any concerns or issues, so make sure your voice is heard. As always, we have our anonymous feedback survey available if you prefer to reach out that way.

We wish everyone a great 2024, and we look forward to connecting with you!

CBGReAT Updates

Hi all,

Happy week six of the term! CBGReAT has a few updates for you:

We are looking for speaker nominations for the OIM, P-Chem or IMB seminar series! If there is someone you’d like to see give a talk here, please send us an email (uocbgreat@gmail.com) with their information. We’ll set up a poll and get a vote going. The speakers will be invited in the order they were voted on and we’ll host them if they accept! Let us know what awesome scientist you’d like to see here!

To improve our ability to be available for student needs and concerns, we have opted to open our regular weekly meeting times to graduate students. If you have any issues related to your graduate student experience that you believe CBGReAT could represent to the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, we’d love to hear from you!

Your options include:

  • Stopping by our weekly meeting on Thursdays at 11 am in Klamath 308
  • Sending an email to uocbgreat@gmail.com
  • Leaving anonymous feedback on our website with this survey

FYI we will no longer be holding CBGReAT lunches, but rather rely on the above options for obtaining feedback.

Thanks everyone!

Anonymous feedback and lunches!

Just a reminder that we have our second CBGReAT lunch tomorrow at 11 am in KLA 160E. Bring your lunches and feedback for a great discussion!

We have also added an anonymous feedback survey that you can find if you click on the “Contact Us” button. We value all feedback and will take everything into consideration to improve the experiences of the graduate program. Thank you!

CBGReAT lunches are back!

On the second Friday of every month from 11-12 in KLA 160E, we will be having CBGReAT lunches! This will also be listed on our “calendar” page. Feel free to bring your lunch and any comments, or questions that you would like to discuss. Hope to see you there!

Nominations for new CBGReAT members now open!

Nominations for new CBGReAT members now open!

Hello Chemistry and Biochemistry graduate community,

It is the time of year again where the Chemistry and Biochemistry Graduate Representatives Advisory Team (CBGReAT) is looking for nominations for new members for the 2020 calendar year!

CBGReAT is a group of elected student representatives who work directly with faculty in the Graduate Education Committee to facilitate communication between graduate students and faculty within the department. The group serves to represent graduate students’ interest in matters related to education and scholarship, with the goal of continually improving the graduate student experience in the department.

Things to know:

  1. Students can be either faculty-, peer-, or self-nominated. Faculty/students can only nominate a divisional representative if they self-identify with that division.  You may nominate anyone for the at-large position. Everyone nominated for a divisional position will automatically be considered for the at-large position.
  2. Graduate students who have completed their 1st year and do not anticipate graduating within the next calendar year are eligible to run.
  3. If elected, students will officially serve as a representative from Winter 2020 until Fall 2020.
  4. Nominate students via our google form. Multiple nominations possible, just fill out a form for each! CBGReAT Nominations Fall 2019
  5. Nominations are open starting today, 10/28 and ending next Friday, 11/8.
  6. See our charter draft for more info on representative responsibilities: https://blogs.uoregon.edu/cbgreat/mission-statement-and-charter/

If you have any questions, please email us at uocbgreat@gmail.com, or come and visit us during CBGReAT lunch, Mondays from 12-1 in 417 LISB.

Thank you for taking time to nominate students for this important role!

Nominate an O/I/M Seminar Speaker!

It’s that time of the year again! Each year, CBGReAT works with the O/I/M faculty to invite a student-elected speaker to give a seminar. If you have a professor or a scientist that you are interested in bringing out to the UO to learn more about their work, please email CBGReAT with the prospective speaker’s name, institution, and a paragraph summarizing their recent work and why they are interesting. We will then compile the nominations, and send out a poll for a popular vote.

Please send in your nominations by October 14.
