Campus Involvement

At the University of Oregon I take place in a variety of activities around campus. In the Multicultural community I am a part of Black Student Union and attend several of their events and occasionally their meetings when my schedule permits. I first decided to join BSU to be a part of a group who looked like me. That was never an issue outside of college however after arriving at the UO I realized that the difference among races was apparent and wanted to reach out to my community. This outreach was one of the reasons why I stayed at the UO and am very glad it was there. I also work as a Tutor for the Services for Student Athletes within the Jacqua. My initial want to work there was to reach out and support students with academic needs specifically in the athletics as I once played sports and understand what it is like to struggle between athletics and school. Outside of that I intern for a Multicultural Magazine, which connects to my Journalism major and allows me to gain experience in that field. I really enjoy interning there as I get to read a wide variety of stories from different cultures which helps broaden my cultural knowledge. I feel like a big part of  being an accepting human is to understand where people are coming from and what other cultures are around you. My overall involvement on campus varies per term based on availability. I try to take to attend several events around campus to broaden my knowledge. For example, Fall term I attended different multicultural group events, various fundraisers and programs to express my appreciation for some of the campus communities.
