2 of 3

My second midterm presentation focused mainly on the sustainability which could be implemented and used within the facility. It addressed the type of systems which could be installed to help run and reduce the carbon impact of the building on the environment. Some of the strategies I discussed with my reviewer was: 1. Solar hot water heating tubes, stack ventilation, mini stack turbines, PV panels, radiant floor heating, vapor spray for cooling, and living machine connection for grey water reuse along with extensive green roof systems.

Additionally I pinned up preliminary facade ideas, and 90% final floor plans. Some further suggestions I received about my floor plans, and which was added to the final design, was a hiking loop up through the central atrium. I called this this hiking loop as it responded similar to switch-backs up/down a mountain. This made the central atrium acts as a hot spot for bouldering and hiking as well as a visual connection for people walking along the main circulation route.

Tectonic Review:

During my tectonic review I posted my work on the structural make-up of my building as well as presented my tectonic model. My reviewer, Andrea Hektor form KPFF was my consultant. My work checked out with a few minor suggestions to account for the lateral sway. Other than that things were good. I met with her a couple week later to double check a new room system i design with a more branched feature. At her office she showed me an existing project she was working with a very similar structure and ways that was being accounted for structurally. All in all, the design was fine.
