Midterm Review Postmortem

On February 22nd our thesis studio had a midterm review that took a look at both our site planning and building development.  Jared Barak and I proposed a site plan that was focused on a central plaza on 92nd Avenue that would be a new home for the farmer’s market that was bounded to the north by the Food Center and to the south by the office component of Jared’s Maker’s Space.  A path extends from the east side of the plaza to the eastern bounds of the site, connecting with the I-205 mixed use path.  Deeper into the site bounding the path is the maker’s shop and cultivation space which will be phased for development in the future.  Finally a grocery store occupies the northwest corner of the site to draw traffic in and provide a needed community resource.

The Food Center design is an L shape design organized around an atrium from which all of the building’s functions can be seen at once.

The feedback from this review that was the most helpful was suggestions for diagrams that would help explain the design rationale better.  Other suggestions concerned the degree to which the plaza needed to be bounded.

The next steps after this review was to revisit all the design decisions and think through the diagrams and rationale that led to the design.   A finer grain to the development is also appropriate to the next steps in the design.
