Site Impressions

The South Waterfront EcoDistrict has some issues in connectivity to the rest of Portland. First of all, Interstate 5 to the west acts as a solid barrier, disconnecting the Goose Hollow neighborhood and hills from the district. The Ross island bridge and existing industrial building adjacent to it act as a divider of the northern part of the south waterfront to the more recognizable southern portion. Efforts have been made to make an East-West connection by implementing a walking bridge over I-5 and an aerial tram connecting OHSU the campus, but more can be done to draw people into this area of the city. The Northern connection is made through SW Macadam and Moody avenues, and also by a planned green belt which is intended to stretch all from River Place at waterfront all the way through the South waterfront.

The two possible sites I am considering are marked above.
