I have begun to look at the Lloyd district in more detail and have found a lot of very good information available. The best of these sources that I have seen so far is : The Llyod Development Strategy This source truly breaks down the Lloyd into areas that would be understandable and because of this source, I have found that I do in fact want to focus on the big parking lot area in front of the Lloyd mall. Through my searching of sources, it was brought to my attention that there is a lot of potential to turn Lloyd into more a of a neighborhood and that was the wish of the public. Now the only difference from my initial thesis is that I probably won’t keep the parking lot as it is and build over it and will probably develop the land with mixed-use in mind. At the moment, the Lloyd is a place for commercial businesses and institutions, but could become a hub of recreation and living as well.
Now that I have decided my site and the type of building I want to do, my next step will be what is my approach to turning this into a ecodistrict? At the moment, I am thinking that I want to look at ways to lower carbon emissions and somehow create more energy. This site is a very good location for other forms of transportation to be utilized like the light rail train or walking. I even found a website that rewards people for taking other forms of transportation in the Lloyd. (click this link) As for the energy portion, I am looking at different solar energy potentials.
