Moving Forward…

After feedback from the review, I will consider the pedestrian connection from the neighborhood to Hollywood Blvd as more of a secondary pedestrian path for the block. It seemed more critical to draw pedestrians to the street front for reviewers and I think that is a good point. However, the concept of a street front and blend of private and public open space as a back yard connection was well received. I will rearrange the vertical massing of the buildings on the block to insure optimal day lighting. This next term I will need to really develop the district filtration of waste water from building uses. This process should help shape these open spaces and contribute to the experience of the pedestrian way.

In terms of the building, I need to further develop the interior spaces and begin filling in the highly glazed facade elements to reach a higher opaque percentage. I think that I am in a good place for next term where the building concepts and urban design were received well, but now I definitely need to refine the ideas into a more developed and cohesive building scheme. Another issue will be balancing the use of media facades with energy consumption. I need to continue my focus on charging energy during the day to be able to light the building at night and use strategies that are low energy consumptive but can provide similar effects.

I am also excited to visit my site this week and take lots of pictures to create a much clearer story of the context and its connection to my site and building. Hopefully, I will be able to document a lot of ideas about the residential developments and neighborhoods more clearly with site photos.
