After the midterm review and based on some feedback from my studio professor, my mentors, and other students, I implemented some changes into the project to strengthen the concepts that I originally started with and to create a stronger link between the building and the surrounding site. Expanding upon the concept of adaptable and transformable built environments, the modified design focuses on a modular system of housing and retail units that has the capacity to grow or shrink over time based on the need of the community. The cultural center provides a flexible environment that facilitates cross-cultural interaction and learning through various events, workshops, and classes.

This preliminary rendering shows the reduced mass of the cultural center and phase one of the modular retail and housing units. I am still working on modeling the structure of the main building and the landscape. The connection to the waterfront works with the natural elevation changes of the site and organic form of the cultural center.
