Solar Responsive Skins

Static patterns can adjusted according to Ladybug’s Solar Radiation (heat) that hits a surface over an analysis period.  You can tune a shading structure for the summer (months 6 to 8) o make it appropriate for the whole year (months 1 to 12) . These examples use uto’s MeshEdit to explode the Analysis Mesh

The Sun Path vector can drive adjustable kinetic modules.  First create a module that opens and closes. Second, use tile the pattern (i.e. Mesh Surface, arrays, copy to grid, or Lunchbox). Third substitute the Remapped angle between the Sun vector and the surface normal vector for the number slider.  Mesh Surface makes it easier to get the normal vector than Paneling tools.

Often it takes attention to matching the data structure to make this last step work  (i.e. right button to GRAFT output:  Grafting separates data into individual lists so there can be a one to one correspondence with the transformation).  The second step is shown below for a Voronoi pattern and a hexagon pattern.
