We are into the second week of our online orientation to the upcoming field school. I am looking forward to when we are all sitting over dinner in Beijing talking about the ideas and issues that are emerging during the orientation. Each of you have provided me with some new things to think about.

I imagine that all of us have begun (or for those of you already in China, completed) packing for the field school. Please feel free to make suggestions on what you think we should bring.

John and I are looking forward to learning more about each of you as a result of the final assignment you are being asked to do for the orientation. Due on July 1, your orientation to field work, is likely in process. Do not hesitate to contact John and I with questions about this assignment.

Sam, the media library contains an image of a Cherry Pie, that I am guessing will appear in your response to this assignment. Next to rhubarb pie, cherry is my favorite. John, I am thinking you and I should post a family photograph and recipe as well.
