Jones in this week’s article talks about how computer graphics have changed over the years and how it developed. Games, for example include characters that are very real, sometimes they represent famous people from real life:”Computer generated characters, sets and environments for television and the motion picture industry are being explored” (Jones, 56). My boyfriend plays advanced video games and people from around the world can play with him. The graphics of his game are very good and the characters look very real. Today’s technology is progressing very fast which sometimes is scary. Do you think that all the access to advanced technology can harm people?

I think that access to advanced technology can be a good and bad thing. I personally hate seeing people who are completely sucked into technology and cease to acknowledge their surroundings and the natural world. I believe people are too consumed with the next coolest gadget instead of understanding that there are more important things in life to focus on. People tend to tune out reality and live in these fantasy games or just extremely advanced gadgets of any sort and end up being closed off to the real world. With that said, I can also acknowledge the fact that technology has helped us progress in positive ways. In terms of medicine technology has made it possible for us to understand diseases create solutions to these horrific problems. As long as people don’t completely lose sight of the things that really matter, I don’t think I see technology advancing as a bad thing.
There has definitely been a ton of debate on whether or not media (made possible by modern technological advances) such as television, movies, and especially violent video games contribute to violence in viewers or players. I personally don’t think that there is a very strong causal relationship between violence in media and violence in the “real world”. Most critics of violent media, however, only need a correlation, even a weak one, to build up a foundation to stand on and attack an artist’s expression through technological art.
