We did a lot of walking this week. In an age of Google street view there is still a different sensory experience walking in a city for the first time.

Gracia

Below is a drawing of Gracia from 10 Lessons on Barcelona. The drawings describes how autonomous developments occurred, each around a square (almost like a cul-de-sac). Today this results in an overall organization that does not line up, streets that rarely continue more than three blocks and square with a feeling of privacy since you cant see into them from very far away. These squares are the model public spaces for the new Superilles we are studying here BCNecologia_Presentacio Superilles.

Plaza de la Vila Gracia

Use your smart phones and data plans to locate and even pin into a map https://www.google.com/maps/d/ Next week we will show you have to export the Google map as a KML file and then convert to CSV!  Otherwise even I get lost in Gracia! Slope is the only orientation (yes, there is an app for that).

Like Vila de Sarria today, this plaza was the town hall (ajuntamiento) of the previously autonomous village of Gracia.
