Use ELK and OpenStreetMap.org to extract geometry for urban room diagram. Use the Google My Maps I shared “Maritime Metropolis 1.1a” for help locating plazas.

Try again to use the GH Elk 2 tutorial using a downloaded OSM file of the Gotico plan from our first full morning of Neighborhoods and Maritime Metropolis. Make small thumbnail diagrams of the street center lines using Rhino, Grasshopper (GH) and Illustrator. You can upload these individually or neatly organized in one JPG (export from Illustrator) to your blog post. Consider layers for buildings, streets (various hierarchies), etc.

For all:

  •  In Grasshopper you can try using “building” or “buildings” information for the walls and right click the last GH component to Bake (fried egg icon) to Rhino, save selection as *.AI file.
  •   Control edges of perceived urban spatial experience (hint, how we may have arrived at the spaces) by selectively deleting lines or using a clipping mask in Illustrator, adjust for 2-3 line weights. You may have to draw the last one analog to pop an outline/boundary of your spatial experience. 
  •   Comparative diagrams of spaces: comparative scale, always north up. Neatly label each urban room.

Save *.AI as PDF. Then export as JPG and upload to blog.
