Brian Mackay-Lyons

– Do you find value in Lyon’s ” Three F’s for an Architecture of Regionalism: Fitting, framing and forming?”

I personally think their is great value in the ” Three F’s- Fitting, framing and forming” as stated by Brian Mackay. The above 3 concepts I guess are the 3 most important stages of the project from its design to execution stage and Brain brings this about with clarity – where he starts and ends the process of design and build considering the context, climatic response  into planning and the materials for the execution and existence of the project. His saying  that ” it is the idea of fitting the work into the context that remains the
dominant influence in shaping the finished product”  is clearly understood from all the three house projects of his where their is an effort in responding to the region with various materials and vernacular styles of architecture.

I would surely like to participate in building the Ghosts. Its a different experience all together for an architect to design and build. I guess the level of satisfaction and knowledge of understanding  is incommensurable. We all know and hear about the cases in which the building design is changed during the execution from what it was designed and meant to be and I assume that this is a worst feeling for the architect. While designing an architect gets passionate about the project and its like dream come true for it to be built as designed and the level of satisfaction of it being liked is an other level of achievement.

I strongly feel that every architect should have a build experience so that he/she actually thinks practically while designing and to  experience this  I started it  by volunteering in the Habitat for Humanity where you are actually involved in the construction of the project.
