Mackay-Lyons
1. I definitely find value in the “three F’s”. All too often in studio I find myself drawing inspiration from things outside the site, whether it be something I see in a book or a more abstract concept. I think there is a lot to be taken from the site itself and how the building physically occupies a space. I think the F’s are a fairly obvious idea, but definitely something valuable to consider that is often overlooked in design.
2. I would absolutely love to participate in The Ghosts. I think as budding young designers, one of the most valuable things we can learn is how to build what we design. The rationality of construction shows in architects like Mackay-Lyons and Joy, because their construction details enhance and work with the space, instead of having a beautiful space interrupted by poor construction detailing. I think when you have an understanding of your materials, it greatly improves your design.
