Christian Norberg-Shultz
Why has Norberg-Shultz been drawn to Heidegger’s ideas as they relate to today’s architects and their work?
Norberg talks a lot about making spaces meaningful through architecture. People make a space meaningful by dwelling. Architecture is the mere enclosure that houses the dwelling that is creating meaningful spaces. These ideas are based on Heidegger’s definition of “dwell”. Norberg wants us to go back to the root of things, to go back to the basic definitions of enclosure and to dwell. Only then, can we move forward with architecture.
