In Their Own Words

By Annika Minges

Lisa, a food cart owner by night, and culinary instructor by day, was able to combine her love for cooking and helping youth at Looking Glass Station 7. Riverfront School, an extension of Looking Glass Station 7, is an alternative high school for students who’ve struggled in the traditional public school setting. Lisa works with a new set of students each term, teaching them the in’s and out’s of cooking. The students prepare and serve lunch for the Riverfront students every day. The primary goal of the culinary program is to provide these students with experience that they’re able to put on their resume, in hopes of gaining valuable employment after graduation.
