REFLECTION

I chose the objectives that our professor chose from that week because I feel like my assignment best reflects each one. I’d have to say, though, that the third objective is the best reflection of my piece. “Explore one’s own value system.” From this assignment, I found that family and friends were at the top of my list. This is because I honestly don’t know where I would be today if it wasn’t for them. I don’t usually take a lot of pictures, so unfortunately I don’t have any with my mom, dad and brother. But the people in the picture above are my family when I’m in Oregon. They have taught me more about myself than I could have. H. Lewis in, “A Question of Values: Six Ways We Make the Personal Choices that Shape Our Lives,” says, “Although the term values is often used loosely, it should be synonymous with personal evaluations and related beliefs, especially personal evaluations and related beliefs, especially personal evaluations and related beliefs about the ‘good,’ the ‘just,’ and the ‘beautiful.’ personal evaluations and beliefs that propel us to action to a particular kind of behavior and life.” I completely agree that many people use the word to loosely. But the word should be used synonymously with the good, the just and the beautiful.

I value my friends and family because they make my life good and more beautiful. Without them, everything would be dull. Without them, the values listed below them wouldn’t mean the same. Being successful wouldn’t be as fulfilling without them because they are the ones who make me successful. I want to personally develop into a successful journalist to make money to show my parents that everything they have done and all the money they have spent on my education will be put to good use. My friends have made my time good, just and beautiful at Oregon. I actually hated the school my freshmen year and almost transferred had it not been for two of my best friends. They were there for me when it wouldn’t stop raining or when I was homesick. I honestly think I value love more than anything in this world, which is why family and friends are at the top of that list. Without them, loyalty, independence and personal development mean nothing. This is where the first two objectives reflect me as a person.
