Recall a time in your past you felt challenged. List the who, what, when, where of the situation:

A time in the past I felt challenged was when I was completing my Eagle Scout project for the Boy Scouts of America. I only had a very short amount of time left to plan out and complete my project so it was a stressful situation. This was my senior year of high school right before I turned 18 because you have to completely finish all the requirements and the last big project before your 18th birthday. There were many times throughout the project that I felt like quitting because the task was so overwhelming, but the thought of all the money my mom provided for me to be in the Boy Scouts and making my family proud is what pushed me to keep going forward. I love completing milestones such as this in my life because I am setting the standard for my kids in the future.

Describe the feelings you worked through in finding a resolution:

I worked through many feelings of doubt at first when trying to find a resolution, but by the end I believe that those feelings converted into feelings of confidence because I knew that I had to complete this project no matter what.

How do you use that motivation during your college experience?

I use that motivation through my college experience in two ways. The first way is that I now know that I am capable of completing anything I put my mind too. At times it seemed impossible to be able to complete the project in such a short amount of time, but I still got it done successfully. This shows me that I shouldn’t be afraid of approaching any task, especially completing college. The second way I use that as motivation is because giving back to my family in the future is the number one reason of why I work so hard. My family, and especially my mother since she raised me by herself, has sacrificed so much just so that I could have had the best situation possible growing up and I love them endlessly for that. I want money to never be a struggle for my family in the future so I am trying my hardest to get into a situation so I can make that possible, but I first have to complete college to get there. My second priority for my future is too also give back to my community in Los Angeles. The cities of Hawthorne and Inglewood where I am from do not provide the best environments for kids to grow up in so I plan to build skateparks so that there are less kids in the streets and more kids practicing a healthy and productive sport.

What will your future accomplishments provide for you, your family, your community, the world?

I think my future accomplishments will provide happiness and a peace of mind for me. I am excited to be able to give back to my family and community in the future so that I slowly affect the world in a very positive way.
