Question One

In 3-4 sentences, explain the relationship between the three elements: path, distance, and timestamp.

Path is the line that connects all of the GPS points in a route. Distance is the length of the route. Timestamp is the duration of time between GPS location calculations.

Question Two

In 3-4 sentences, explain in laymen’s terms the steps you took to collect and map the transportation data.

First I used an app called Run Keeper to capture GPS data (‘route’) to work with. Once I had a short enough route to work with, I used the app’s developer website to download a file containing all of the route’s GPS (and other data) data. I then uploaded the file to a web-app in order to display the route on a map.

Question Three

In 3-4 sentences, explain the role that your GPS sensor played in collecting trip data and how useful this type of data can be for addressing transportation issues.

The GPS sensor played an important role in collecting trip data. Without location data, any other data captured (temp., humidity, lux, accelerometer … etc.) have little context and therefore utility.
