Douglas Davis, Affiliated Faculty and Design Thought Leader

I really enjoy being one of the variety of voices needed both in front of and behind the concept. If I had to describe my approach to creativity I’d say it combines right-brained creative problem solving with left-brained strategic thinking. Over the years I’ve learned that my integrated point of view has enabled a natural evolution from designer to strategist, author, and professor. I’m not a writer but in 2016, I wrote Creative Strategy and the Business of Design, and In 2020 it was translated into Mandarin by Beijing Normal University. Currently, I’m Chair of New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn, the first and only NASAD accredited B.F.A. in Communication Design program in all of CUNY’s 25 campuses. My passion is helping creatives take the rational language of business and turn it into the emotional language of design.

WORDS OF WISDOM

“Creatives are the spoon full of sugar that makes business and marketing objectives palatable to the public. They can’t do business without us.”

“My process in three steps is to: organize the chaos, question the answers, and turn insights into executions.”
