Doug Zanger, Pro-Tem Faculty and Industry Icon

EXPERTISE

Technically, I’m an editor. Practically, I use words and images in all kinds of media to share news, tell stories, highlight talent and, otherwise, add to the marketing industry’s narrative. Ultimately, though, it comes down to being curious and understanding my responsibility as a practitioner and leader in journalism and marketing.

I remarked to my wife, a few summers ago, on vacation at Camp Sherman, how I ‘wasn’t bored of Oregon.” What I meant by that is that I chose a place to live that still retains a sense of wonder in its natural beauty and especially its people. I chose Oregon and the Pacific Northwest, and it’s loved me back as much as I loved it in my almost 29 years here. Everything starts from there.

WORDS OF WISDOM

“Never let the lyric get in the way of the groove.”

This quote from late songwriter Allee Willis refers to her battling Earth, Wind & Fire’s leader, Maurice White, on what “ba-dee-ya” meant in the hit song September. What I take from it is that, sometimes, you may not know every damn thing, and you need to trust talented people.
