There are many messages that can be shared through public relations. Companies want to send specific messages to their publics, and there are effective and not-so-effective ways to do so. In this blog, the focus is on public relations and its relationship to fashion. Fashion is very universal. Everyone, whether they know it or not, partake in fashion even by getting dressed every day and buying a new article.
Some examples of PR jobs in the fashion industry:
Brand ambassador – a person who is hired by an organization or company to represent a brand in a positive light, and by doing so, help to increase brand awareness and sales.
Media Relations Manager – responsible for overseeing communications to the media, including preparing articles, press kits, press releases, and other content initiatives.
Event coordinator – responsible for every aspect of event planning.
There are different sides to fashion. From the Fashion Week shows, editorials in magazines to collaborations with models or celebrities and social media campaigns, the opportunities to spread the word about clothing brands are widespread.
Who your company knows is a large factor. Celebrities and influencers play a key role in endorsements, advertisements and general connections between the audiences of television, movie and lifestyle stars and the fashion industry.
Relevance is important. As a PR practitioner in the fashion world, there should always be a clear vision of the next step. Fashion is continuously changing and releases are made constantly. To work PR in the fashion industry means being on top of the next trend and event.
Not only must you have an understanding of fashion trends, but you must also understand media trends as well. You must know where, when and how to release news to the media about your company in a way that makes the audience trust the company and what it stands for, and what the clothing represents. Media is a large factor in any PR job.
