Class 7: Academic Direction II

In today’s class we talked about the recent election and the things that have been taking place; not just in our community but around the United States. We talked about the things that we have seen, How we feel about the recent events, and what is it that we need because of the recent results.

when talking to my group about what we have seen, we talked about how we’ve seen sadness, fear, and protests. We talked abut how we have seen this in both Democrats and Republicans. There seems to be a lot of confusion on both parts and it makes us question what direction is our country headed. There are just a lot of emotions taking place and it is visual and audible, especially with al the recent protests. But with this we have noticed people coming together for a common purpose, despite some of the differences they might have had. Their passion about this issue has proven to be greater than other issues present in the community.

When it came to talking about emotions, I noticed that they were all over the board. People were sad, mad, frustrated, disappointed, scared, confused, and even happy. Some of the people in my group were neutral while others felt really strongly about it. I feel the people in my group were very reasonable when it came to their feelings but also acknowledging the other sides’ feelings throughout the election as well.

At this point it is hard to say what is needed based off of recent events. I think the  best thing to do it stick together and continue speaking on the issue. It does not seem like it something that is going to go away anytime soon and it is best to be hopeful through it all because it is a lot to take in but I don’t think it should rule our lives, we still have rights and we should stretch them to the best of our abilities.

Even though we did not talk about what we originally had planned, I still believe there were LCB Holistic Criteria present in the conversation, such as, a global mindset, ability to overcome obstacles, and utilization and effective leveraging of university/community resources and opportunities. I feel like I don’t have a good grasp on politics but I think I got good insight through this class. Politics are probably going to be a big part of life now and I think it’s good to start talking about it and easing it into peoples lives. When it comes to politics I think it’s all about research and looking into what it going on in the U.S. and our Government.
