There were a number of LCB Holistic Criteria I noticed in today’s lesson, such as demonstrating leadership on campus and/in the community, cultural competence, and utilization and effective leveraging of community resources and opportunities. Out of the three, I believe I have already developed the idea of cultural competence, not just through this one class but throughout life and growing up. I do have to say my area of growth would probably be leveraging of resources and opportunities. I do not think I utilize them and I think my main issue is that I don’t know about most of them. I definitely need to look more into resources, whether that be through classes, online, professors, or weekly newsletters. There are tons of resources, I think it is just about finding the right one that fits me and my needs.
I think today’s class was very relatable and I feel as though I identified a lot with the situations that were presented. There were also somethings that I realized I would do sometimes and I think that made me more aware about interacting with people. I think the class was helpful and has helped self aware, when it comes to those basic questions, such as “where are you from?” I also think learning about the UO bias education was a good aid for me and other students who encounter this kind of thing throughout their lives.
