OSLP Arts and culture is a place were everyone is welcome. They see no disability and they promote all sorts of workshops. Open studio is very popular among comunity members; not only is art fun but people feel good after finishing a project and seeing it displayed.
OSLP Arts and Culture Program is an inclusive space where community members of all abilities can come and have a good time. They are located in Eugene, Oregon offering classes and workshops. Their mission is to give people a place of expression and growth.
Jamie Walsh is the programs director at OSLP Arts and Culture. She started off as just a volunteer for Oregon supported living program. The program wanted to give diverse opportunities for everyone and the idea sparked between volunteers and staff. Jamie mentioned that OSLP Arts and culture program just celebrated its 5th year anniversary which staff and community members are excited about.
Perry Johnson is a talented community member. His art work will be on display for an upcoming exhibition called “we” at the Portland art museum. Here is a picture of him putting the finishing touches on his painting.
One-on-one artist mentorship is offered at OSLP Arts and Culture. Community members like to come and learn about new techniques which range from painting, beading, weaving etc. Here is a community member painting on a small pumpkin as the holidays approach.
Sterling Israel is a resident artist at the OSLP Arts and Culture. Both Jamie Walsh and Sterling Israel enjoy working together. They love seeing people from the community and people with developmental disabilities work together and break down stereotypes. Thanks to programs like these people can gain confidence by making art.
