Unit 4: Is Food Art?

Unit 4 Objectives:

  • Examine methods for evaluating qualities of art, such as product versus process, the difference between craft and fine art, must art be archival, and what is an aesthetic reaction.
  • Explore the notion of food as an art-form.
  • Consider cultural differences in the production and consumption of food.

Reflection on piece of work:

The reason why I chose the research project for “Is food art” as my example piece is because in my discussion I was able to make a strong case based on my background for why I believe food can be considered art. Also the article I chose strongly supports my claim that food can be considered art. Furthermore, my response to the article meets the objectives listed above. In the future to further expand on why food can be consider art, I could go to fine dining restaurant and interview some of the chefs there on they’re thoughts on whether food can be considered art.

This a meal that our cook, Austin Johnson, created for us on our commercial fishing boat. Austin cooked this Halibut to perfection and presented it in such and artistic way. This is food as art.
