  • Examine multiple perspectives for evaluating art

Artifact:

What is Art For?

Reflections:

I am not a art person, but after doing this assignment I learned how to define an art and understand art in a different way. Art is important in our life, and I think people really define and understand art in different ways. Talents, creativity and imagination within art are the characteristics that help people to see thing in different perspective. In fact, everything that is alive or that is still could all be considered as art. Something is or is not art can be defined by one person himself.

I discovered that cultural differences have huge impact on people valuation of art. I did not grow up learning western history, so it was hard for to understand or identify the history of western art. Art is changing over the time as human beings’ perception is changing. The author of the article “What is art for” explained that valuation of art might change due to personal background. If you are not familiar with the culture that you are living in right now, it would be hard for you to find the real cultural meaning of art.

Future goals:

I hope that in the future I can recognize and define art works. I enjoy just looking at them, because art works provide enjoyment visually. I hope I will have chance to read more articles that explain what art is for in our daily live. Someday, I will build a strong understanding and have the ability to define art from different perspective.
