Inspired by groundbreaking female track and field stars, the Hundred Meter ring honors the legacy and style of athletes like Sha’Carri Richardson and Florence Griffith Joyner, also known as Flo Jo.
Flo Jo was known for her elaborate long nails and brightly colored running suits, which she wore while racing despite the critique of her competitors and spectators at the ‘84 and ‘88 Olympics. Richardson upholds Flo Jo’s legacy with her own flair of vibrant dyed hair, bedazzled fishnets, and ornate nails. With her record breaking pace Richardson may stand atop this year’s Olympic podium in the 100 Meter. Both women challenge the status quo of style in elite running, expressing themselves and the culture of Black women in America.
The Hundred Meter ring captures the dynamic, bold style of these women, extending beyond a traditional ring. Three lines wrap around the finger, emulating the lanes of a track, creating a unique form resembling wings so often associated with the fastest runners.
