Project 1 Description_Yash + Jigisha + Madeleine

The neighborhood corner of Agate Street and 19th Avenue in Eugene, Oregon is a social hub that hosts a variety of eateries and green public parks. Within a one-mile radius from this block is a mix of single-family detached homes, the University of Oregon and Hendrick’s Park, a 78-acre park that contains a mature forest and rhododendron garden. The character of the street evolves from day to night. The establishments range from a meeting point for grabbing a morning coffee to a bustling bar with university students at dusk. Across the way, an auto-body shop with a parking lot is sometimes occupied by a food truck, a mobile clothing shop and a Saturday farmer’s market in the summer months. We intend to measure the following: (1) mode of transportation, (2) air quality, (3) sound quality, (4) biophilia, (5) types of social activities (phone, person-to-person interaction, individual, pair, groups), (6) cost of the main food items on the menus, (7) and lastly identify ethnicity of the people working and visiting. Our aim is to record information to better understand if there are a variety of cultures present on this block.
