Description

1) Kallbadhus is a bath house located in Karlshamn, Sweden, that provides access to saunas and the ocean. It is open to the public for 100 sk, or about 12 dollars per person.

2) The bath house is almost made fully of grey stained wood, and it is accessed by a bridge supported by two beams made from an engineered wood, glulam timber. Large wooden gates at the bathhouse’s entrance are intended to recall traditional Swedish archetypes such as barns or old wooden houses, and the colors suggest an overall calming experience. People get warm and sweat in saunas, then immediately dip in the ocean to cool off to sooth muscles.

3) The oldest known scandinavian saunas were found in Finland. The saunas featured a fireplace where stones were heated to a high temperature, then water was thrown on the hot stones to produce steam and to give a sensation of increased heat. Directly after spending time in the sauna, people cool off in lakes and other bodies of water. They were, and still are, used for their health benefits and to treat illness.
