Welcome to the UO Real Estate Investment Group

History

The University of Oregon Real Estate Investment Group, established in 2018, was founded with the primary goal of educating students on all facets of the real estate industry. Starting with a dedicated group of just eight students, the organization has rapidly expanded and is now poised to become one of the largest and most influential groups within the business school.

What We Do

The UO Real Estate Investment Group is a niche selection of undergraduate students who learn about the components of real estate investing, pitch real investment properties, and explore different facets of commercial real estate. To go beyond peer-to-peer teaching, UOREIG regularly invites guest speakers, anywhere from developers to investment bankers, to share their wisdom and experience. Likewise, the group tours a few sites per term, ranging from local apartment construction sites to retail rental spaces. Everyone in the club also participates in case studies and property pitches to a local investor. To foster a community, the group hosts social events for our members to create strong friendships and connections with each other. The Real Estate Investment Group introduces real estate investing skills that are not taught elsewhere at the University of Oregon. We guide students towards the many possible careers in real estate while making lifelong connections along the way.

Our Goals

The UO Real Estate Investment Group seeks to facilitate learning about real-world real estate investing skills through peer-to-peer teaching, guest speakers, site tours, and case studies. We guide students toward the many possible careers in passive investing and commercial real estate, and teach members various hard and soft skills that are relevant to everyone in the industry.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to inspire, educate, and empower individuals to achieve financial independence and build wealth through the principles of real estate investing. We are dedicated to providing comprehensive education and actionable insights that promote smart investment strategies, financial literacy, and the transformative potential of a career in real estate. We aim to breakdown the complexities of the financial world, encourage sustainable wealth creation, and ultimately enhance the financial well-being of our members. Through our commitment to continuous learning, we strive to be a trusted resource and catalyst for those seeking to secure their financial futures.

Long Term Goal

The long-term goal of the University of Oregon Real Estate Investment Group is to manage a portfolio of hard assets in the Pacific Northwest. This goal aligns with our mission to provide students with hands-on learning experiences in real estate and real estate finance. By giving students the opportunity to oversee real estate transactions, we aim to equip them with practical skills that are crucial for their career development. These experiences not only enhance their understanding of the industry but also pave the way for a fast-growing career path after graduation.

Land Acknowledgement

The University of Oregon is situated on Kalapuya Ilihi, the traditional indigenous homeland of the Kalapuya people. Following treaties between 1851 and 1855, the Kalapuya people were dispossessed of their indigenous homeland by the United States government and forcibly relocated to the Coast Reservation in Western Oregon. Today, Kalapuya descendants primarily belong to the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, and they continue to make significant contributions to their communities, the UO, Oregon, and the world.

In accordance with Indigenous protocol of acknowledging the original inhabitants of the land we occupy, we extend our respect to the nine federally recognized Indigenous Nations of Oregon: the Burns Paiute Tribe, the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians, the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, the Coquille Indian Tribe, the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, and the Klamath Tribes. We express our respect to the many more tribes with ancestral connections to this territory, as well as to all other displaced Indigenous peoples who call Oregon home.

As members of the University of Oregon Real Estate Investment Group, we commit ourselves to understanding this history and recognizing the impact of our actions on the lands and communities we are part of. We strive to incorporate this awareness into our professional and academic endeavors, acknowledging that the work we do in real estate must be mindful of its historical context and potential impacts on Indigenous lands and communities.
