Welcome to my blog site, a complete overview of my 10 weeks in AAD199: Art Meets Science. In this class, we explore the interconnectedness between art and science along with the different interpretations that come along with the two. Along our journey we have explored many art exhibits around campus, including the Museum of Natural History and the Integrated Science Building. These experiences have helped shape my perspective on aspects of art and science while  developing the “creative” side of my brain. You can say that I have thoroughly enjoyed this course.

The artist that I decided to research this term was Karla Chambers. Chambers was born in 1959 in the Dalles, Oregon. As a young girl, she was immersed in a rich agricultural environment where she spent hours on the farm, herding cattle and riding horses. Having no prior artistic experience, she purchased a canvas and paint brush and began to paint. It was quickly apparent that Chambers’ sense of texture and color was unique. Her powerful sense of color expresses the rhythms of complexities in the world, including nutrition. Karla’s message reaches thousands, specifically young kids. She feels the way she emphasizes bright colors will influence decisions toward healthy eating.

With a high interest in nutrition and health, researching was quite fun and exciting for me. I designed a poster of my interpretations of Karla’s work along with a more informative brochure.
