Sweet Home Meats

Sweet Home Meats

For our group project we decided to focus on the Eugene Famers Market as the main source of local food in Eugene, and profile one of the farmers that contributes. We ran into a lot of trouble deciding on an idea and getting in contact with people. We decided to go to the market and find someone that would let us work with them. Daniel with Sweet Home Farms was happy to let us come out to his farm and do our project on him. We chose to focus our multimedia piece on his farm, what makes him unique, and how he uses the farmers market. We especially focused on the fact that Daniel doesn’t come across as an average farmer. He grew up in the city and graduated college with a degree is political science which we felt made him an interesting character to profile. We used video from the farm and from the market, as well as photographs, to tell the story and make the piece visually interesting.

Our six interviews were with people who shop at the market and with some of the other farmers and vendors. We felt that getting perspectives from those groups of people would help give background to what our subject does and why he does it. Our story for the project gave a brief description of the market and what is sold there, and used the interviews that we conducted to give it a more personal feel. We got interviews from all sorts of different vendors and farmers to give our story more variety and make the background information engaging.

For our blog, we chose a simple, easy to use layout, with rotating images and headlines. We also chose an earthy, green color scheme to go with our content and relied heavily on interesting images to grab the reader’s attention.
