Currently the Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies department at the University of Oregon does not have a PhD program. To that end, as of AY 2020, I cannot accept incoming students for graduate studies. I can, however, serve as an external committee member to graduate students in any department.
I have select criteria for serving on a graduate student’s committee:
Creative Work: I am able to work with students in the areas of poetry, fiction and performance art. I do not have an MFA, however, I have apprenticed in poetry and performance, and have published with significant success. My own artistic networks would best benefit students who are interested in building a career grounded in the experiences, practices and worlds of Black and/or Latinx/Chicanx communities. A student with whom I work would benefit from my training and community networks.
Bodies of Scholarship: A student’s work has to engage Black feminist/queer, decolonial, Indigenous/Native Studies scholarship. My own training is in African American (Diaspora) studies, Anthropology and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies. I have specializations in scholarship on race, gender, sexuality, and Afro-Diasporic religions in the Americas (including the U.S., the Caribbean and Latin America). I have training and extensive experiences with critical ethnographic methodologies, Black feminist and decolonial methodologies. A student with whom I work would benefit from my training.
If your work does not meet the criteria stated above, it is likely I will not best serve your committee.
