Ooh, sabbatical is REAL. Kinda.

I received a Wenner-Gren Foundation Grant (thank you Mike Murashige for your help in making this happen) for a research project on Ogun, dear lovely Ogun. I am working with Edwin Aristy from the UASD Humanities and Social Sciences School, as well as with several others (more on this later!) for the realization of this study. I am deeply moved and excited to work on this project, which will FIRST appear in Spanish with a later English-language translation. Stay tuned for more info Ogun lovers.

We had our fourth healers annual healers gathering/ceremony here in the Dominican Republic this past July. Gathering in the time of COVID presents all kinds of ethical, moral and logistical dilemmas. However, after a year of virtual gathering, it felt important to gather in person – outside, vaccinated and tested, masked and conscientious of each other’s presence. There were 60 people in attendance and lots of conversation about the concept of reciprocity within our traditions and in healing work.

I also just found out that Bridging the Gap, a state-wide community group I am a part of in Oregon, is going to be coming to the Dominican Republic in November (ojala! – all forces of the universe willing) for an exchange trip focused on Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and Afro-Indigenous solidarity. I am REALLY excited to bring together people I care about in Oregon with the people I care about here in the Dominican Republic.

Because I am ON SABBATICAL, I am not checking my University of Oregon email. So, if you’d like to schedule talks, interviews, or book presentations, please reach out to communityconsultingresources_at_gmail_dot_com

More soon!
