WOW Events for Incoming Undergraduate Music Majors
In addition to the mandatory Music Major Orientation on Wednesday, September 20th, your attendance may be required at other Music WOW events, as detailed below.
A mandatory meeting for new undergraduate jazz studies majors will take place on Thursday, September 21st from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM in Rm. 184. Additional information will be posted on the Jazz bulletin board outside Room 184.
Dr. Shner will be holding a saxophone workshop, which is mandatory for all admitted undergraduate music majors who play saxophone. The workshop, which will take place on Tuesday, September 19th from 5:00-6:30 PM in Rm. 163, is designed to prepare students for their wind band and jazz band auditions and will include segments on tone, technique, literature assignments, reed preparation, equipment needed for saxophone lessons, overview of the term, and overview of events for this year. Because the workshop will involve playing, students will need to bring their instruments and prepare assigned repertoire (emailed to students earlier this summer). For additional information, contact Dr. Shner, whose contact information may be found on the faculty page of the SOMD website.
Community for Musical Scholars Dessert Social
On Tuesday, September 19th at 7:30 PM, a dessert social for members of the Community for Musical Scholars (CMS) Academic Residential Community (ARC) will take place in the basement of the Musical Scholars residence hall. This event is open to Musical Scholars ARC students only and is a great start to community building with your music major peers, professional and peer advisors, and residence life staff. Please be sure to bring your UO ID card to this event, as cards will be scanned for access to CMS exclusives.
Careers in Music
On Thursday, September 21st from 2:00-3:00 PM in Rm. 178, a music career workshop will be co-presented by Grace Ho, Professional Development and Graduate Academic Advisor and Alli Bach, Music Undergraduate Academic Advisor. All incoming music majors are encouraged to attend.
