Our Study Sites
Howard Buford Recreation Area is a place dedicated to native habitat restoration with over 30 miles of trails, a 118-acre arboretum, and a native plant nursery. The habitat consists of a biodiverse gradient of conifer woodland, oak woodland, and grassland, creating an integral ecosystem for sensitive native wildlife. In order to further this mission, we are working with the park stewards to investigate management methods that maintain accessibility for visitors and provide sanctuary for wildlife.
Georgia Pacific Natural Area is a 120 acre space home to essential wetland habitat. With the park management’s guidance and our research, we will formulate strategies to minimize disturbances to the sensitive wildlife by creating viewing spaces that simultaneously protect the ecosystem by reducing the need for illegal social trails and promote public appreciation for ecology.
