Media Literacies for a Living World Roundtable

W. James Potter’s research focuses on media literacy and media violence, with specializations in media effects, media theory and methods. He is currently at work on a general of theory of the mass media in which he plans to integrate the theories and research findings about the mass media industries, their content, audiences, and effects into an integrated system of explanation.

W. James Potter has published over 20 books and more than 100 scholarly articles. Potter is author of the best selling Media Literacy, Eighth Edition (Sage Publications, 2016), as well as “Guidelines for Media Literacy Interventions in the Digital Age” (Medijska istraživanja, 2014), and “The Expanding Role for Media Literacy in the Age of Participatory Cultures” (Routledge, 2013). He is a former editor of the Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, as well as a Principal Investigator on the $3.3 million National Television Violence Study, which was funded by the National Cable Television Association.
