Media Literacies for a Living World Roundtable

Antonio López’s research and teaching focuses on bridging media and ecological literacies as ecomedia literacy. He is author of “Ecomedia Literacy for Environmental Sustainability” (MILID Yearbook/Nordicom, 2015), Greening Media Education: Bridging Media Literacy with Green Cultural Citizenship (Peter Lang, 2014), “Putting the Eco into Media Ecosystems” (Routledge, 2014), The Media Ecosystem: What Ecology Can Teach Us About Responsible Media Practice (Penguin Random House, 2012), and Mediacology: A Multicultural Approach to Media Literacy in the 21st Century (Peter Lang, 2008) .

From 2000-2007, López researched and developed Spanish language media literacy curricula, and developed and evaluated community service projects using digital media literacy with disadvantaged youth across the United States. During this time, he developed grassroots media programs with high school-aged Native Americans, African Americans, Latinos and immigrants. He has published numerous journal articles and book chapters about media education and youth media. López was recently featured on the National Association for Media Literacy Education’s M-Passioned series.
